Located near the Bolhão Market, the 18th century Almas Chapel is simple, but remarkable for the blue and white azulejo tiling covering its external walls. This was carried out in 1929 by Eduardo Leite with tiles manufactured in 18th century style. The panels depict ‘The Death of St. Francis of Assisi’, ‘The Saint in the presence of Pope Honorious III’ and ‘The Martyrdom of St. Catherine.’ Other notable features are the off-set double storey domed tower, the stained glass window to the façade by Amândio Silva and Joaquim Rafael’s panel of the Ascension at the high altar
