The Casa-Museu Amália Rodrigues was the home of Amália Rodrigues (1920-1999) from the 1950s onwards and was opened as a museum in 2001. Known as the Queen of Fado (Rainha do Fado), she was instrumental in popularizing fado worldwide and was held in such esteem that she was buried in the National Pantheon. Amongst the many interesting items are a portrait of Amália in the hall by Luís Pinto Coelho, dresses used in her performances and a nineteenth century guitar and mandolin with fine inlaid work. There are also paintings by Menez, Mário Cesariny, Cargaleiro, Ribo, Jacinto Luís, and Maria Taveira.
