The 18th century Angel fountain in the Largo da Sé is ascribed to Nicolau Nasoni (1693-1773). An Italian artist and architect, he worked mainly in Portugal. His well known buildings in the city include the Palace of Freixo and what is regarded as his greatest achievement, the Clérigos Church and Tower. An interesting composition, it has a wrought iron railing and a marble relief over the water pipe. The other interesting feature is a small sculpture of the angel St Michael carved in local Ançã stone.
