The star basilica church was built in the second half of the 18th century on the orders of Queen Maria I. Situated on the top of a hill, it is regarded as one of the most important sacred buildings of the period in the city and its gleaming white dome is a prominent landmark. Built in the Late Baroque style, the classical facade has twin bell towers ornamented with statues. Inside, amongst the many notable features, there is a manger featuring more than 500 figures.
