Situated on the South side of the square dominated by the Cathedral, the original palace was erected in the 12th and 13th centuries. Substantially rebuilt in the late 18th century, when it became one of the most important palaces in the city, the work is attributed to the architect Nicolau Nasoni. Although now occupied as civic offices, it is still an imposing building with an exceptional staircase and is highly regarded for the quality of its stonework.
