The largest expanse of sand along the Estoril coast and only 23 km west of Lisbon, Carcavelos Beach is very popular. The conditions are excellent for both surfing and body boarding. Beach volleyball and football competitions are regularly hosted here. The beach is located to the west of São Julião da Barra Fort, it has EEC blue flag status, lifeguards are on duty in season and there are facilities for the disabled. The average summer seawater temperature is 17-19 ºC and there are plenty of bars, cafes and renowned restaurants nearby. Parking is available and umbrellas can be hired.
