Although the facade of this building is plain, do enter, because the inside is a real gem. Walk up the wide marble staircase; discover a richly decorated central courtyard in Moorish style and several rooms of contrasting styles. The furniture throughout is in wood and tooled leather. The building is from the 17th century and was at one time a casino. Since 1932 the main room, which is filled with decorative tiling, has been a well known restaurant serving authentic Alentejo food and giving the building its present name. Well patronised by both locals and tourists.
