The building and park which now constitute the Conde de Castro Guimarães Museum were donated to the people of Cascais by the Count Manuel de Castro Guimarães when he died in 1927. The property, formerly the Torre de São Sebastião, was originally built by Jorge O’Neill, in 1910. It is a notable example of fantasy, romantic architecture and luxurious life. The museum was opened in 1931 and its exhibits include paintings, sculpture, furniture, porcelain, jewellery and a valuable library. Azulejos are a feature of the grounds, those on the 17th century Chapel of São Sebastião depict the life of the saint.
