Located in the Rua das Virtudes, close to the São Bento da Vitoria Monastery, the terrace of the former British club stands on one of the towers of the Romanesqe 14th century city wall. It was used as a home for the elderly by the St. Bernard Congregation until 1834, when a rich Porto merchant bought it and adapted it as his residence. From 1923 onwards it became the British Club, a meeting place for Porto’s British community. There are some worthwhile painted ceilings internally and the building is in the UNESCO Classified Area of the City.
