In the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park about 8 km north of Cascais in beautiful surroundings, Guincho Beach has strong waves and winds which attract surfers and body boarders. During summer, the good northerly winds are ideal for windsurfers and a leg of the world championship is staged here each August. This is an EEC blue flag beach, with lifeguards on duty in season and facilities for the disabled. The average seawater temperature in summer is 17-19 ºC, parking is available and umbrellas can be hired. There are bars and cafés and some excellent restaurants nearby specialising in fish and shellfish dishes.
