Salgados Beach covers a large area and has a diversity of landscape, ranging from ochre cliffs to golden sand dunes. Just beyond the dunes is Salgados Lagoon, where migrating birds stopover each year. It is also a breeding area for many protected species, including red heron, blue-black grassquits, caimans and curlews. The beach is good for most water sports and swimming. The beach is particularly attractive to surfers and body boarders as the sea regularly provides good waves. Facilities include: Restaurant, showers, parking, facilities for disabled, sunshade rental and small craft hire. The average summer seawater temperature is 20-23 ºC.
